Some Things About Me

Hello! My name is Kacie and I am 25 years old, living in Panama City, FL with my Wife (Andrea) and three dogs (Ali, Rex, and Stitch). I am originally from Arizona and went to school for my bachelor's in Anthropology in Wichita, KS, and am now studying for my Master's in GIS Administration at UWF! After graduating in 2019, I became an archaeological field technician and worked for about a year in AZ before transferring to Florida in 2020. I have been able to work and travel all over the Southeast, meeting new people and experiencing different towns and their quirks.  As much as I enjoyed the survey work and meeting new people, I got a little tired of living out of hotels and seeing my family every once in a blue moon. This is why I decided to go back to school and find a job in GIS or at least a job I could be home every night. Thankfully, I found a position with Bay County as an Addressing Coordinator within their GIS department but I was recently promoted to GIS Specialist II. It has been great so far and has given me a lot of hands-on experience as well as some wonderful advice from my coworkers about GIS and some certifications/steps I should take to further my career. I have gotten my ArcGIS Foundation certification and I am working on getting my Desktop Associates next. Other than that, I have been working on multiple projects for our 9-1-1 addressing system as well as implementing a new internal system for databases/ permits. Outside of work, my favorite things to do are reading, going to the beach (pretty much anything that involves the outdoors), and spending time with my little family whenever I have the chance. I would ultimately love to have a job where I can work remotely so that I can travel and visit family any time but working at that county has been great. So far this program has taught me a lot about the basics of GIS as well as some basic accounting and management skills. I am hoping that once I graduate I will be ready to head into the GIS career field with much success.
