Module 3: Terrain Visualization
In this week's lab, we were tasked with learning how to edit and envision different terrains by utilizing TINs, contours, and DEMs.
The map below depicts a landcover of Yellowstone National Park. We were given the elevation and landcover raster datasets to display the terrain as realistically as possible. Since the land cover had various tree types of the same origin, I grouped them together into Pine, Fir, Aspen, Krimmholz, and Non-forested areas. Each feature was given a specific color so they could be differentiated on the map.
I used a multidirectional hillshade effect on the DEM so that the terrain looked realistic. I then overlayed the land cover over the elevation layer and made the layer transparent enough to show color while the hillshade was shown through.
