Module 4: Spatial Enhancement, Multispectral Data, and Band Indices
To better enhance my skills in remote sensing, we need to go over the ways we can enhance images within remote sensing and use the data to improve our research. In this weeks lab we went over spatial enhancement, multispectral data, and band indices. All of which, will be helping us better understand remote sensing and creating quality maps. By using ERDAS and ArcGIS pro, I learned how to use different filters and tools to enhance images so that they can be clearer, certain features are highlighted and any unwanted features can be removed.
With spatial enhancement, the images were passed through different filters and calculation to create a higher quality image that highlighted specific features and allowed for the pixels to be sharpened so that features can be depicted. We also went over multispectral data that allowed us to see how using different band combinations can highlight different areas more than others and allowed us to see the pixel counts and varying depths on the terrain. For this lab we looked at an area in Washington and choose three features, using the four different ways to find these features.
Overall, this lab had a lot of information for us to learn and showed various techniques to use when wanting to highlight a feature or find a specific calculation on the feature.
