Module 2: Cartography

For this week's lab we were tasked with creating a map outlining Escambia County, the location of UWF, the two major cities Ferry Pass and Pensacola, and the major rivers and interstates running through it. We learned about the importance of color scheme and how to highlight what is the main focus and how we can draw attention to it. We also learned how to add in text boxes, logos, legends, scale bars and north arrows and how important the layout of everything is for the viewer's eye and understanding. I enjoyed being able to try out different colors and formats as well as exploring different methods and techniques for the layout. This is another lab that I have enjoyed and was able to follow and understand easily. I have begun to remember how to do some simple tasks through Arc GIS which is pretty exciting for me and I am getting a little bit more comfortable with using it.
